Set phasers to amor. Asa Butterfield Britt Robertson have been cast in a new, currently untitled science fiction romance from STX Entertainment. They’re joined by Gary Oldman and Carla Gugino. Set in an era of planetary colonization in the solar system, the film will follow the first child born on Mars who begins an online romance with a girl living in Colorado. Living in a secret, experimental colony, he begins a plan to find his way to Earth in order to meet her. But with Earth’s gravity threatening his life, the two literally star crossed lovers seek out the billionaire whose money made Martian colonization possible for information about the boy’s dead mother, and the circumstances of his birth.

Based on a short story written by Richard Lewis, Stewart Schill and Allan Loeb, Peter Chelsom is directing from a script by Loeb, with revisions by Peter Chelsom & Tinker Lindsay. Gabrielle Jerou produces while Allan Loeb, Steven Pearl and Doug Urbanski exec produce. Production is set to begin this fall.

Butterfield, known for roles in Ender’s Game and The Wolfman, was most recently seen in 2014’s X+Y, set to be released in the US this fall under the new title A Brilliant Young Mind. He’s also appearing in 10,000 Saints, and set to star in Tim Burton’s adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Robertson, who starred alongside George Clooney in 2015’s Tomorrowland, has also been seen in Scream 4, The Longest Ride, and Cake. Butterfield is repped by Independent Talent Group and CAA, along with publicist Liz Mahoney of ID Public Relations, and attorney Patti C. Felker of Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson. Robertson is repped by innovative Artists.
