Congratulations to the cast and crew of Under the Dome for securing a second season!
Under the Dome will return next summer for 13 more episodes, CBS announced today.
The drama based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel is averaging 13.84 million viewers this summer and a 3.5 rating/10 share in adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. The series has also enjoyed a big boost on DVR playback and Amazon’s Prime Instant Video, which says Under the Dome has been watched by more customers than any other series on the service.
“It’s the way television should be,” CBS Corp Chairman Leslie Moonves told reporters this morning at the Television Critics Tour in Los Angeles. “It’s the way television can be.”
Under the Dome tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.
Just in time for the holidays, you can see Under the Dome released to Blu-Ray on November 5. At the cost of almost $60 though, I’ll be adding this to my wishlist, that’s just a little too steep for me at the moment!
Under the Dome starring Dean Norris, Rachelle Lefevre and Aisha Hinds has been available to pre-order on Blu-ray and DVD at Amazon.com without a release date since the show’s debut last month on CBS. At today’s Comic-Con 2013 panel in San Diego, it was announced that Under the Dome: Season 1 would make its Blu-ray and DVD debut on November 5, 2013.
Based on the Stephen King novel, Under the Dome has been a huge summer success for CBS that averages 13.53 million viewers per episode. To put that in perspective, no other network show has put up those kinds of ratings since the CBS drama 2000 Malibu Road way back in 1992.
It was also announced during the Comic-Con panel that Season 1 of Under the Dome would end in a cliffhanger. Though CBS has not formally renewed the show for a second season yet, the green light seems like all but a formality at this point given the show’s continued success.
The Blu-ray edition of Under the Dome: Season 1 will include all 13 episodes spanning four discs, and be presented in 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Bonus features have not been detailed as of yet.
Amazon is offering an Blu-ray exclusive limited edition in dome packaging that will additionally include its own set of exclusive bonus features on top of the ones in the standard Blu-ray release.
CBS has released the official press release for episode 5 of Under the Dome, you can read it below as well as find out who’s going to be in it after the continue button.
